Aravind failed us, must quit as MP: Nizamabad farmers

Nizamabad: The Committee of farmers formed to achieve Turmeric Board has demanded that the Nizamabad BJP MP Dharmapuri Aravind step down immediately as he failed to fulfill his promise of getting the turmeric board set up within five days of his election to Lok Sabha.

The committee members comprising turmeric farmers who met at Lakkora of Balkonda Assembly segment, demanded that the MP should not participate in the agitation for setting up the turmeric board. Interestingly, the MP had changed tack on his electoral promise earlier in the day and said a turmeric board was of no use to farmers indicating that the possibility of setting up a turmeric board was ruled out.

Speaking to media persons on the occasion, a committee leader Sama Venkat Reddy, reminded that the Nizamabad MP Aravind gave it in writing that he would quit his post if the board was not constituted within five days of his election. Venkat Reddy said even after completion of six months of union government, had not taken any decision on setting up the board. “Now the MP seems to have forgotten his promise and is now comparing turmeric board issue with an outdated ambassador. It is not correct. The MP should immediately resign to his post and participate in the movement for achievement of turmeric board,” he demanded.

He said that TRS party government had promised to provide 24 hours power to the agriculture sector, provide irrigation water through SRSP rejuvenating scheme by lifting Godavari water through flood flow canal, providing Rs 10,000 per acre under Rythu Bandhu scheme and issuing of Rs 5 lakh insurance to deceased farmers. The government had fulfilled all these demands.

But the BJP MP failed to fulfill his promise of Turmeric board. He said if Aravind submitted his resignation on the issue, some pressure would be built on the Union government. He should now resign and lead the movement, he said.

Nagampet Shekhar, a committee member said that Aravind has deceived the Nizamabad district farmers with his fake promises. He got elected as an MP by bringing the issue of turmeric board, but now he was citing some lame excuses. He demanded that the MP resign and participate in the movement.
