Andhra Pradesh encouraging multi-model logistics parks

Visakhapatnam: Special Chief Secretary – Industries & Commerce, Infrastructure & Investment Department in AP government R Karikal Valaven has said that the State Government was encouraging estsblishment of multi-model logistics Parks at Anantapur and Kadapa.

Addressing the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)’s second edition of Logistics Conference focusing on the theme “Economic Prosperity through Logistics” through digital platform here on Friday, he pointed out that Andhra Pradesh is endowed with best road and rail network and there was a need to focus on Inland waterways to reduce logistics cost in the state. The Government was focusing on exports and would announce an Export Promotion Policy to give greater impetus to growth of exports from the state, he disclosed.

“In order to enhance connectivity with Industrial clusters, the Government is planning to set up coastal shipping berths across the seacoast to leverage the advantage of long coastline for the state of Andhra Pradesh,” he added.

Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust K Rama Mohan Rao, who spoke, highlighted the various initiatives of the Government like Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat and Sagar Mala to drive growth in the logistics sector. He felt that proposed Coastal economic zones in the state would drive growth of Andhra Pradesh. The Visakhapatnam Port had taken all the required measures for safe evacuation of goods in view of COVID-19 pandemic and enhanced cargo handling system had helped avoid congestion at the Port, he said.

Chief Commissioner -Central Excise & Customs of Visakhapatnam Zone Naresh Penumaka stated that Customs department had taken several measures to ensure smooth flow of goods and services in views of COVID-19. The department had reduced the paperwork and ensured the timely clearance of various goods, he said, adding that the Government had appointed Nodal Officers to ensure faster clearance of goods at the Ports.

Chairman of JM Baxi Group Krishna B Kotak noted that Andhra Pradesh was strategically located and played major role in contributing to the overall growth of the country.

Mr D Ramakrishna, Chairman, CII Andhra Pradesh & Managing Director, Efftronics Systems Pvt. Ltd presided the Inaugural session of the Conference. Mr Datla Tirupati Raju, Vice Chairman – CII Andhra Pradesh & Executive Vice Chairman, Vijayanagar Biotech Pvt. Ltd delivered concluded remarks at the conference. The Conference witnessed a participation of 80 delegates representing various sectors of industry.
