3 arrested for bludgeoning cabbie to death in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Three persons who allegedly killed a 20-year-old cab driver by smashing his head with a boulder after taking him to an isolated place in Patancheru in order to steal his car were arrested by the Rajendranagar police here on Wednesday.

Police said the incident took place on April 20 but came to light when one of the three suspects, who got scared after executing the murder, informed the Jeedimetla police.

According to Rajendranagar Inspector G Suresh, the victim, Mohammed Jahangir, a resident of Chintalmet, was working as a driver with Ola Cabs.

The arrested persons were identified as Shaik Hafeez (20) of Chandragiri Nagar, Mohammed Tanveer (20) of Venkat Ram Reddy Nagar and Mohammed Jahangir (21) of Warangal. The trio hatched a plan to steal cars by targeting cab drivers. On April 20, they booked a cab and travelled till Miyapur. However, they got down at Miyapur as the cab had other passengers. From Miyapur, they booked another cab till Patancheru.

“It was Jahangir who picked them up. They urged him to drop them at Zaheerabad, where they took him to an isolated place and murdered him using a boulder,” he said.

While returning home, they met with an accident when the car crashed into a tree at Jogipet.

“Hafiz was driving the vehicle in a drunken condition resulting in the crash. They then abandoned the vehicle,” the Inspector said, adding that the Rajendranagar police who were investigating the missing person complaint lodged by the victim’s parents, were informed by Jeedimetla police about the murder.

“The body was recovered from the bushes in Zaheerabad and the stolen car from Jogipet,” Suresh said. The suspects were produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
Jahangir’s body was handed over to relatives after autopsy on Tuesday.
