10 Markaz attendees test positive for COVID-19 in Adilabad

Adilabad: As many as 10 attendees of Markaz event in Delhi tested positive for COVID-19 in Adilabad district on Saturday.

The discovery created a flutter in the district which had not registered a single case till Friday. According to information provided by District Medical and Health Officer Dr Thodasam Chandu, 124 travelled abroad and of them, 118 completed home quarantine as on Saturday.

Samples of 73 persons, who returned from Markaz, were collected for ascertaining whether they contracted the novel Coronavirus. Among them, 38 tested negative. A total of 10 persons tested positive. Results of 25 persons are awaited.

Six persons belonging to Adilabad district headquarters, while three belonged to Neradigonda and one from Utnoor mandal. The suspects will be shifted to Gandhi Hospital of Hyderabad for  better treatment. Their primary and secondary contacts will be shifted to quarantine centre created in Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS)-Adilabad.

All the 73 attendees returned to the district between March 15 and 18 and all of them were identified recently. They were sent to isolation wards at RIMS and some of them were quarantined at a centre. Their blood samples were sent to Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, Collector A Sridevasena said that people of the district need not to be tensed over the quantum of positive cases. She requested voluntary organisations to feed the needy and to distribute groceries to the poor by practicing physical distancing in the presence of Tahsildars. She urged the public not to venture outdoors and advised them to come out only when emergency.

The IAS officer cautioned that stern action would be taken against traders if sold groceries at higher prices than maximum retail price. She informed that disinfectant hypochlorite solution was sprayed at Hasnapur village in Utnoor mandal from where a person tested positive. Similarly, fair price shops would be remained closed in the district headquarters from Sunday.

People of Adilbad expressed shock with district registering the positive cases. They sought the authorities concerned to take appropriate measures to contain the virus.
